The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
Alrighty. I finally get to review one of my most favorite games.
And here it is. Yes, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. A beautiful, challenging, fun, and well made first person role playing game.
This game has a wonderful storyline. If I were to grade the story, I'd give it an A-. As for the beginning of the story, you can sit back, and enjoy the video.
Yes, that old guy you saw in the video, he's the emperor. You? Hmm.. Well you are but a prisoner. (Hence the end of the video) The emperor happens to cross paths with you, turns out there is a hidden passage way in your cell that secretly escapes his kingdom. Looks like it's your lucky day! But what is the emperor running from ... ? Ah, the game will tell you. Not me though! ^.^
Wonderful thing is, whether or not you like the story, you can choose to follow the main story line, or completely ignore it. Don't care about the emperor? Eh, just get out of the cell and kill some things. Or do some other things, like training skills.
Speaking of skills, boy.. Oblivion has a lot of them. Each one you can train! But before I talk about skills, lets rewind a little bit, to where you are escaping. While you escape, you choose something called a "class". Your class tells you your major Attributes and Skills. But wait, what are Attributes? They tell more about you, (Sorta) and what you have an easier time doing. There are 8 Attributes in Oblivion:
They all pretty much describe themselves. Each of them governs 3 skills.. Except Luck. Attributes do many things for you. For example, the more strength you have, the more damage you do. The more Endurance you have, the more health you have. The more Speed you have.... Well.. You can guess that..
Skills are a big part of this game. The higher skills you have, the more you can do around the world of Oblivion. You always choose 7 skills you think you will use the most. These 7 skills are called your Major Skills, and determine whether or not you can level up. Here are all the skills you can train: Acrobatics, Alchemy, Alteration, Armorer, Athletics, Blade, Blunt, Block, Conjuration, Destruction, Hand to Hand, Heavy Armor, Illusion, Light Armor, Marksman, Mercantile, Mysticism, Restoration, Security, Sneak, and Speechcraft. -takes deep breath- .... Each skill has 5 levels (Novice, Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, Master.) At each level, you gain specific perks. For example: A Master of Sneak has the least trouble being undetected, while your critical sneak attack ignores armor ... Quite fun indeed.
You can also choose what you do with these skills ... You can use them to the good of mankind, help your neighbor.. Or you could use them against him. Good? Or EVIL?? You make a choice between the two at a lot of points in this game.. Choose wisely. Here's a pretty good situation: Your buddy steals something valuable to you. Will you Ask him nicely for it back? Or will you pickpocket him? Or.. Will you just kill him and take it back all together? Decisions..
Oblivion is a lot of fun. Besides the fact you can do almost anything, the graphics are AMAZING (A++), controls are standard (A), and the PC version of the game is totally customizable. There are endless possibilities with this game. Here's a little video showing the freedom in the game:
(Warning... There is a bit of violence..)
Poor guy.
I really haven't described everything in this game. If you have any questions, just comment, or PM me, or whatever suits you.
Speaking of the M rating. I don't know what happened but at the Gamestop I usually go to, there were two copies of Oblivion sitting right next to each other. One was rated M and the other was rated T...wtf?
The game was rated T. That game must have been an older one. I have a disk with the T rating on it. But now it's rated M... For blood I think. (Which can be turned off.)
