Metroid: Other M was revealed at E3 2009. Metroid 3 (Corruption) was supposed to be the last of the series, but Nintendo teamed up with Team Ninja to produce one more. Other M will be a prologue to the Metroid series, showing a younger Samus just after her planet was destroyed. The release is set for some time in 2010.

The first thing I noticed when I watched this trailer was the switch from the usual first-person gameplay to third-person. I'm looking forward to this, because I prefer third-person to first-person.

There's no doubt this is a beautiful trailer. The cinemas look absolutely incredible. The only thing I'm worried about is the gameplay can't compete with the cinemas. Looking at the trailer, there was a huge drop in quality from cinema to gameplay. But you always expect the cinemas to be better.

It looks like a lot of 2D gameplay is involved. As you can see in the second trailer, some speculate that it is mostly 2D gameplay with shifting camera views.

A lot of close-quarters fighting is involved as well. As opposed to standing at a distance and shooting at her enemies, Samus uses a lot more punching/kicking. She also pinned a few enemies in the trailer.

I don't know too much about the Metroid series, but I'm definitely looking forward to picking up this game. The graphics look awesome, and gameplay is packed with action and combat. Hopefully, it lives up to the high standards the Metroid series has become known for.
